Doll's House is a play in three acts by Henrik Ibsen that published in Norwegian as Et dukkehjem in 1879 and performed the same year. The play centres on an ordinary family, they are Torvald Helmer, a bank lawyer, his wife Nora, and their three little children. Doll's House portrays the disintegration of the marriage between Nora and Torvald Helmer in the wake of a major revelation. Nora, a seemingly frivolous housewife, has secretly been working to pay off a loan she took out illegally in order to save Torvald's life.

Meanwhile the title itself, it relates to power, it represents a doll being played with and owned. This doll is controlled. The title is significant to society and entrapment within the house. Further, if we are talking about the main idea of the play, it talks about the first is being women's independence because when Nora makes the decision to leave Torvald behind this was a culture shock for couples living during the time this play was written and performed. Besides, the main themes of the story include the devaluation of women in society, the tension between appearance and reality, and betrayal.

In the end of the play, the story ends with the slamming of a door. Nora turns her back on her husband and kids and takes off into the snow to make her own way in the world. Although, the ending of the story is unhappy in that the main character, although invested so much sacrifice and effort, ended up losing everything she was trying to protect, such as her marriage, her children, her life as she knew it, her home, and maybe even her place in society as the wife of an important bank president.

In addition, the main themes of the story include the devaluation of women in society, the tension between appearance and reality, and betrayal. The story tell us that marriage should be equals in many sides and have to accept the differences, because in the story, Nora’s character is very independent and a lot of conflicts happened in their marriage it create an imbalance that guide them into to betrayal condition.
