The Summary of Aunt Dan
and Lemon Story by Wallace Shawn
Aunt Dan and
Lemon is a play about a young woman's relationship with a family
friend obsessed with Henry Kissinger that is currently getting a production in
the Theatre Passe Muraille backspace from a new company called Shadowtime. Moreover, it is about a sickly young woman living in London
that she lives alone in an apartment and subsists entirely on bread and the
fruit and vegetable juices she considers her friends. She explains that her
parents are dead and that she has little to do but sleep, masturbate, and read,
mostly about the Nazi death camps.
The story begins almost like
a children's TV show, with Lemon a fragile and reclusive young woman in a
cardigan and a precious British accent, greeting the audience like Mister
Rogers:
"Dear people, come into
my little flat, and I'll tell you everything about my life."
The theme shows in this play is actually about Aunt
Dan and Lemon examines the nature of evil,
looking at how the most corrupt impulses arise in ordinary people, even in
intelligent, educated, seemingly rational individuals.
In the last part, the story
ends with a monologue from Lemon that reveals how everything she shared in
flashback up to this point led to her adopting fascist ideology. She celebrates
Nazism in her final moments on stage, praising its straightforwardness and
willingness to kill in pursuit of an ideal way of life. Sickly, Nazi-loving
Lemon finds this attitude “refreshing,” rejecting notions of compassion as
unreal.
So, that's all the summary
of Aunt Dan and Lemon by Wallace Shawn. Seperti biasa jangan lupa di like,
